Eligibility Criteria
- PhD or equivalent completed in 4 years (postdocs) or 12 years (professional researchers). Up to 16 years of age with a strong publishing history.
- Academic publications refer to peer-reviewed international journals.
- Accreditation of research facilities and supervisory approval from the German host university.
- Two peer reviews, including a PhD supervisor. Fluency in German or English depending on the field.
- Must have lived outside of Germany for 12 months out of the 18 months prior to application.
- German citizens must have lived abroad for at least five years.
Financial Coverage of Humboldt Research Fellowship 2025

- €2670 per month for manuscripts
- €3170 per month for experienced researchers

Deadline
The selection committee responsible for evaluating applications for this program meets every March, July and November. Submit your completed application form, along with other required documents, before the required election date. Applications are usually processed within four to eight months. Incomplete or incorrect applications will take longer to process and often have to be postponed to the next election committee meeting.
